PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Welcome back everyone!

I hope you all had a great summer. I start this year enthusiastic to see the great things Southlake Women’s Club will accomplish. As members, you are an integral part of the success of our Club. I’d like to thank each of you for giving of yourself and your time to support the Southlake Women’s Club.

First, a big thank you goes out to Liz Smith, our website chair, who has been working hard all summer with our webmaster to completely overhaul our websites. Thank you, Liz, for your hard work and the wonderful results!

Also, a big thank you to our Treasurer, Victoria Clyde. Victoria has worked all summer to keep our club going. She has distributed funds to our Art in the Square beneficiaries, paid our bills, prepared our budget, spent countless hours at the school supply sale, and been a wonderful moral support. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you, Victoria, for all you do.

Another group that has been working this summer is the School Supply Committee. A big thank you to Kathy Talley and her committee for another great sale. This sale is such a great way to provide needed funds to the CISD. Way to go, girls!

Plans for Art in the Square have also been going full swing during the summer. We are looking forward to another exciting event!

Now, it’s our turn to get to work. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to join us. A motivated group can change the world, or at least our little part of it.

Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions or ideas that you would like to share. I can be reached at (817) 988-9381 or at phyllambert@yahoo.com. I am looking forward to a great year. Thanks to all of you.

Phyllis Lambert

PROGRAMS
Brandy Voirin

Welcome back everyone!!! I hope your summer was wonderful. Our first program this year is our Texas House of Representative Mrs. Vicki Truitt. She entered public service not in pursuit of political aspirations, but because of her genuine concern for the people in her neighborhood. Mrs. Truitt will be talking to us about the changes that affect our community and answering questions. Mrs. Truitt will be speaking promptly at 10:30am, so please make sure you and your guests are on time.  Before the meeting you will have a chance to sign up for lunch at the Copeland's of New Orleans Restaurant at the Hilton in Southlake. Price's for lunch range from $8-$15. This will be a  great time to get to know new and old members. I look forward to seeing everyone at the meeting and also at the lunch immediately following the meeting. Thank you!

Come join us for lunch!
Thursday September 20, 2007
11:30 am

Kobeya Japanese Steak & Sushi
1230 Main St (Town Square)
Southlake, TX 76092

Sit around a hibachi table, visit with other members, enjoy a freshly prepared meal, and be entertained in the process!

"Hibachi-style" is a North American term for Japanese teppanyaki cooking, in which gas-heated hotplates are integrated into tables around which many people can sit and eat at once. The chef performs the cooking in front of the diners, typically with theatrical flair - flipping shrimp tails into his hat, for example, or lighting a volcano of onions on fire with his fingers.

Look for the sign up sheet at the next general meeting or
you can rsvp to the e-vite sent to you.

Upcoming events:
October 18th - Wine Tasting at Cross Timbers Winery, Main Street, Grapevine.
November – A Spa night at Spa D’aroma, Southlake.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Lisa Quinn

It’s going to be another great year of community service for SWC.  We will be collecting boxes of either adult or kid cereal for GRACE at our first meeting on Thursday, September 13th.  Pick up an extra box or two and bring to the meeting to help our community. We will also accept cash donations.

Our first trash pick up will be Saturday, October 13th at 8:00 AM.  Please put it on your calendar and plan to help out!

ART IN THE SQUARE
Barbara Cohen & Carmen Evans

We are so excited to be working together on this event and have been pretty busy this summer. Barb has been recovering from a medical set-back & hopes to be back in full swing by October. She has been overwhelmed by the level of support, encouragement & prayers she has received from the SWC. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

What you may not be surprised to know is that we still need chairs for several key positions! Signs, Volunteers, Drinks and Kids Korner, to name a few. Please think about what area interests you and give us a call to find out more about it.

Carmen will be at the first SWC meeting on September 13th with more updates and information. Please consider where you might fit into AITS. Our meetings will be held at Central Market in the community room. They are scheduled from 10:00 to 12:00 and we can bring lunch in or stay after for break out talk. The first meeting will be Tuesday, September 25.

Mark your calendars for the 9th Art in the Square: April 25, 26, 27……We can’t wait!

SCHOOL SUPPLY SALE
Kathy Talley

Norma DonaldsoThe school supply sale was again a huge success! I want to thank all of the SWC members and their friends and husbands who came and worked tirelessly throughout the long day. Thanks also goes to all of those young people who came and worked very hard as well. Those students really showed what they're made of as they unpacked boxes, helped parents out to their cars with supplies, and provided supplies to those working at the tables. Of course, I could not have organized any of this without my wonderful committee: Catherine Singley, Renee Swift, Lisa Mlinac, Diane Prager, and Merry Henderson. Their tireless efforts really helped make the whole sale come together. We're still crunching the numbers and will know by the next newsletter how much we made for the schools. Thanks again to all of you - it was great to see you all throughout the day and to just be a part of it all!

WEBSITE
Liz Smith

The Southlake Women’s Club’s website has been under construction this summer. We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with i5 Web Works (www.i5ww.com ), a company here in Southlake that does web design, construction and content management. i5 Web Works has worked with many corporations, communities and non-profit organizations to design and develop professional websites for their clients. They recently worked with City of Southlake to redesign the Southlake Chamber’s website. You can check that out at www.southlakechamber.com. The new SWC website will be completed and live sometime during the week of August 27th. You can find us at:

www.southlakewomensclub.org or www.southlakewomensclub.com

We hope you are pleased with the new look!

SUNSHINE
Norma Donaldson

Welcome Back, Fellow Members! As we look forward to another great year, I want to encourage everyone to advise me of any occasion wherein we could help spread a little "Sunshine." If you know of someone who needs a cheerful note, help with a meal due to illness, or has some great news to share, please contact me at dragonmomx4@gmail.com or 817-416-5239 (home phone).

Barbara Cohen joined us at the Bank of America Grand Opening and I'm happy to say she looked wonderful! It was so good to see her up and around again! She will be undergoing some more medical treatments in September, so please continue to keep her in thought and prayer. We look forward to Barbara joining us at the meetings soon.

Ann Parrish will soon be visited by Mr. Stork, so please keep her in thought and prayer also. We're eager to meet the new Little One upon his/her arrival.

Thank you for helping me express good cheer for our members and their immediate families for major life events. See you at the next meeting!
