I hope everyone is ready for this coming month. It promises to be a very busy time for us. March is our Annual Business meeting. We will be electing our new officers for the 2007-2008 year, as well as taking care of any other necessary business. Please make every effort to attend this month’s meeting. This is a mandatory meeting and also a closed meeting, no guests please.
In addition, we have invited all of our 2007 Southlake Women’s Club Art in the Square beneficiaries to join us during our social time. Representatives will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about their organizations. As members, each of you contributes so much to make the SWC/AITS event successful. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to get a personal look at the tremendous work these groups do and the lives that they touch.
Our “ugly room” winner will be revealed and Melissa Oldham of Our House will show how she has transformed it into a beautiful area. I’m sure she will have lots of wonderful tips and ideas for us. As always, D’Shay will have something wonderful for our raffle. Our March collection will be for orphaned pets. You can donate dog food( Purina or Science Diet), raw hides or dog toys. Sign up sheets will be available for Art in the Square shifts. We have an exciting couple’s event coming this month. You will want to make sure you read all about it!
As May is our Spring Luncheon, April will be our last meeting for this year at White’s Chapel. Please be thinking of someone that you know that would enjoy becoming involved in the Southlake Women’s Club and invite her to our April meeting. It’s a great time to come and learn about our club and an exciting time to join. As you can see this will be a very important meeting and also a very fun and informative one. See you there!

March 8th Program: Melissa Oldham - Our House – Interior Design
Kristin Knight is our ugly/boring room contest winner! Melissa has redone her upstairs family/play room. First off was rearranging the furniture to please the eye. Then faux painting walls; and adding a few accents to bring it together. Melissa has recorded the redo and will take us through the change step by step.
When asked what one word best describes Melissa Oldham, her clients resoundingly proclaim- "passion". Melissa pours every ounce of her ability and 15 years experience into every job. Melissa says, "Design excellence requires that you know your client. Asking the proper questions and listening intently are absolute requirements in gaining an understanding of your client’s needs and desires. By talking and visiting with your clients in their home, you gain insight into the "feeling" they want to achieve in the space. Only then can you make the absolute best recommendations for their projects.”

ART IN THE SQUARE

| It’s hard to believe we’re only 8 weeks away from “the weekend”. Everyone’s hard work is starting to come together. We have a headline performer, but until the contract is signed, sealed & delivered, I don’t want to announce it. I hope to be able to do that at next Thursday’s meeting. Entertainment for the rest of the weekend is all set. Patty Rogers & Chantay Brown have done an incredible job, booking an amazing variety of entertainment that everyone is sure to enjoy.
Sponsorship continues to exceed expectations! To date, Andrea Curreri has, single – handedly, brought on five new sponsors at the $3,000. and above level: Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Sabre, Barnes & Noble, Stark Heating & Air and Hansen Building Materials. Our total cash contributions, at this point, are at $150,000. And I know Andrea will be pounding the pavement right up to the moment we open the gates. Catherine Singley & Annie Dunlap have all sorts of publicity lined up for the event that we will be seeing shortly.
Plans for the VIP party are coming together nicely. It’s going to be a spectacular evening to kick off the weekend. I hope many of you can attend. You receive two tickets when you become a patron of the arts, by contributing $500 to Art in the Square. Please try to carve $500 from your charity budget this year to contribute to this wonderful event that we all work so hard at to make happen. With Muriel Gerard, Kristen Knight & Terri Zelasko planning the evening, it is certain to be magnificent. It is also a great opportunity to thank our sponsors personally and to meet members of our beneficiary organizations.
Paula & Larry Marshall, along with Lisa Brosious, have a great array of food & drink options lined up for everyone’s enjoyment. Youth in the Square, Square Art , the Kids Corner & the new Fun Zone behind Corner Bakery are all taking shape. These committee members are really on top of things.
I continue to be impressed with the level of dedication & pride that we all bring to this event. During every conversation I have throughout the community, people tell me what a wonderful job the Women’s Club does with this event & how much they look forward to it every April. With eight weeks to go, there’s still a great deal of work to be done, but I hope you are all beginning to feel the excitement & anticipation that I do, of watching the fruits of our labor come together for this great weekend that so embodies what the Southlake Women’s Club is all about.

SCHOOL SUPPLY SALE
Kristen Knight
|
| This year’s sale was a huge success! Thanks to all the members and student volunteers for your hard work and dedication. A special thanks goes to my School Supply Committee (Gina Faris, Merry Henderson, Lisa McMillen, Ashley Sadler, Kim Stevens, Kathy Talley), – who worked so hard and diligently, ladies I truly appreciate you all! I would also like to recognize the efforts of Vicky Stropes, Karen Parrish and Victoria Clyde without whose guidance I would have been lost! In addition, a very special thank to Chris Shaw, who came to help us and ended up staying the whole day. He truly saved us by providing both brains and brawn—we couldn’t have done it without him!
I am truly proud of our results! I ordered more packets this year than ever before, and we still sold out of packets for 4 grade levels. In addition, we provided the schools with over $4600 worth of free school supplies for students in need. Our supply vendor, EPI graciously donated those supplies, so the cost will not affect our proceeds – AWESOME!
This year our gross sales were $150,313, up from $120, 834 from last year’s sale. We are still working on final numbers to determine our exact proceeds, and we should have that information soon!
I would also like to extend thanks to The Coffee Beanery, who donated all the coffee (and fixings) for the morning of the sale, and to I Fratelli who brought pizzas at a discounted price.
