PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Welcome back Ladies! I hope everyone had a wonderful, fun-filled summer. Hopefully the 100 degree days are behind us and there is cooler weather in our future. Speaking of the future, I am very excited about the upcoming year. We are fortunate as a club to have an amazing Executive Board in place. These women have already been working over the summer to ensure that all members can enjoy a great and successful year. We have great guest speakers and programs lined up, a variety of social events planned and many charitable volunteer opportunities available. Please find an area of interest that appeals to you and become involved.

Incidentally, did you happen to read the latest issue of Southlake Style? The magazine published their “Gold List”, which is a list of 50 (out of hundreds) of the things that make Southlake such a wonderful community. The Southlake Women’s Club is referred to as “the cities best and brightest who converge for the betterment of all.” I love that! And it’s true. We are known as the women who get things done! Our reputation for successful entertaining events such as the Senior Valentine Luncheon and Art In The Square along with our commitments to serve our community through programs such as Keep Southlake Beautiful and The Annual School Supply Sale is widely known to the residents of Southlake. Each and every one of you, whether a long-time member or a brand new member, is an important, vital part of the Southlake Women’s Club. Thank you for the great things I know will be accomplished this coming year.

Also, thank you to Kristen Knight and her committee for an incredibly successful School Supply Sale. Your hard work along with all the volunteers (extra big thank you here to Chris Shaw) is so appreciated by the community as well as raising needed money for CISD schools.

Thanks go out to Victoria Clyde as well for all her work as Treasurer. She kept the club functioning over the summer paying bills, dispersing AITS monies, paying bills and working on budgets. Thank you Victoria!

Plans are already underway for Art In The Square 2007, thanks to Barbara Cohen and Lindy Moyers. These ladies have already begun the intensive planning process to ensure another incredible event. You won’t want to miss being a part of this!

One last thank you…….I would like to thank Vicky Stropes, last year’s SWC president for all the guidance she has given (and I’m sure will continue to give) to me. It is an honor to be a part of such an outstanding group of women.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions, ideas or suggestions. I can be reached at 817-329-4891 or tljcopeland@verizon.net. We have a fantastic year ahead of us, but we need each and every one of you.

Oh, and for those of you wondering…Southlake Women’s Club was listed fifth on the “Gold List”. Of course they did indicate that it was in no particular order or I’m sure we would have been #1!

ART IN THE SQUARE
Barbara Cohen

It seems like just yesterday that we were at the premier opening of the Harkins Theatre, on the heels of yet another successful year of Art in the Square. But here we are again, preparing to gear up for Southlake’s primary charitable fundraising event - the 8th annual Art in the Square weekend. Mark your calendars - April 27th, 28th & 29th we will again be bringing an eclectic sampling of art from around the world, in every medium, to our community, along with some world-class entertainment, in the hopes of raising money to distribute to a number of local charities. Along with an impressive group of women who make up this year’s Art in the Square Executive Board, including Victoria Clyde, Andrea Curreri, Tresa Protzman and Catherine Singley, my hope is to build on the success of the past, while introducing a few changes. I’ll be going over some of our plans at our first SWC meeting on September 14th. In the meantime, please be thinking of how you’d like to contribute. We are going to need the help and involvement of every member of the SWC in order to continue the success of this amazing event. We will have sign-up sheets out for the various committees at this meeting & the chairpersons of the committees and I will be available to discuss the many opportunities to get involved. Questions email barbbcohen@yahoo.com.

SCHOOL SUPPLY SALE
Kristen Knight

This year’s sale was a huge success! Thanks to all the members and student volunteers for your hard work and dedication. A special thanks goes to my School Supply Committee (Gina Faris, Merry Henderson, Lisa McMillen, Ashley Sadler, Kim Stevens, Kathy Talley), – who worked so hard and diligently, ladies I truly appreciate you all! I would also like to recognize the efforts of Vicky Stropes, Karen Parrish and Victoria Clyde without whose guidance I would have been lost! In addition, a very special thank to Chris Shaw, who came to help us and ended up staying the whole day. He truly saved us by providing both brains and brawn—we couldn’t have done it without him!

I am truly proud of our results! I ordered more packets this year than ever before, and we still sold out of packets for 4 grade levels. In addition, we provided the schools with over $4600 worth of free school supplies for students in need. Our supply vendor, EPI graciously donated those supplies, so the cost will not affect our proceeds – AWESOME!

This year our gross sales were $150,313, up from $120, 834 from last year’s sale. We are still working on final numbers to determine our exact proceeds, and we should have that information soon!

I would also like to extend thanks to The Coffee Beanery, who donated all the coffee (and fixings) for the morning of the sale, and to I Fratelli who brought pizzas at a discounted price.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Brandy Voirin

Welcome back everyone! I'm sure everyone had an exciting summer. I know everyone is interested in getting back to club business. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the first meeting in September. Most of you know by now that my husband is in Poland, and I am visiting him right now. I look forward to seeing and talking with everyone when I get back from Europe. This year we have a lot in store for you ladies. Our theme for the Community Outreach team is " Doing More for Others”.

Please remember to sign up for a shift in the Adopt-a-Street program. There will be a sign-up sheet at the general meeting. There will also be more Community Outreach opportunities in the future.

For those members who have not purchased their SWC aprons, Joan Henderson will have the order forms for the aprons at the general meeting. The aprons are $15 and your name can be added for an additional $5. You may make checks payable to Southlake Women’s Club. We encourage all members to wear their aprons while working at Art in the Square and the School Supply Sale.

Please contact me at brandy2326@hotmail.com with any questions regarding Community Outreach.
