Southlake Women’s Club Shining Star – Carmen Evans

Carmen EvansEvery year the Southlake Women’s Club has the opportunity to vote one active member who is in good standing, Club Member of the Year. This individual is nominated during the Spring, and then voted on by the board. The winner is announced at our May Luncheon, which is the last meeting of the year.

That Carmen was voted SWC’s Shining Star, came as no surprise to anyone. Carmen’s tireless contributions to the club have set a new standard. Her passion is evident in all that she commits to. Her ability to multitask is impressive and her enthusiasm is infectious. Carmen’s leadership brings out the best in all those who have had the pleasure of working with her.

Shortly after moving to Southlake from Nashville, TN in 2001, Carmen immersed herself in the community by joining SWC and immediately taking on leadership roles in Art in the Square, SWC’s premier fundraiser which benefits numerous Northeast Tarrant county charities. Her commitment accelerated over the years, to Chairing Art in the Square in 2008, resulting in her being voted President of the Club the following year. As President, membership rose significantly. As Parliamentarian this year, she has taken on additional Chairing duties for Art in the Square. Despite all the hard work, and the inevitable frustrations that come with volunteer organizations, you would be hard pressed to find Carmen without a smile on her face. She is truly a shining star!

The Club Member of the Year 2008-2009 is Barb Cohen.

Barb Cohen has been a vital member since she joined in 2003.Her passion for our AITS fundraiser has been evident from the start. During her first year with the club she chaired the Set-up/Take down committee. The following year she chaired Square Art, then worked on the Entertainment Committe, before chairing the entire event in 2007. In 2008 she Co-chaired the event with Carmen Evans.

Her previous career experience as the Head of Global Human Resources for a private bank in Boston certainly lent her organizational and management skills.

Barb and her husband, Elliot along with their two children are members of the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, where Barb also volunteers her time organizing Youth Group.

The SWC is proud to honor Barb Cohen as their Member of the Year.
